Hapkido Breaking Photos

Next I’ll be adding a gallery of Hapkido breaking photos, which will be Hapkido masters and students breaking boards, bricks, ice, etcetera. These photos are in short supply so if you have any good breaking photos, please add them or let me know where I can find them. Thanks.

Tan-Jun Breathing, Energy Breathing, Hapkido Breathing

Many styles of Hapkido engage in a type of deep, focused and meditative breathing know as Tan-Jun breathing. It is also sometimes spelled Tan-Jon breathing, Dan-Jun breathing, or Don-Jon breathing, depending on how the Korean letters are transliterated. In fact this type of breathing is also used in other Korean martial arts such as Kuk Sool Won and Tang Soo Do, and even in non-martial arts based meditative traditions like Sun-Do.

Tan Jun breathing involves breathing into and out of the Tan-Jun, the center of ki energy located slightly below the navel. In practical terms this means breathing deeply into the stomach, and out of the stomach, rather than the chest.

Photos of Do Ju Nim Choi Young-Sul

These are all the photos of Do Ju Nim Choi Young-Sul, founder of Hapkido, that I could find. I think it’s the largest collection of photos of Master Choi that you’ll find on the web. Click on them for larger versions. Do you have any more? Please upload them!
